About English with Gilbert
English is learned by using it.
English with Gilbert is built around practical communication, small groups and active participation. The goal is not simply to study English, but to help students become more confident using it.
A simple idea
English with Gilbert grew around a simple idea: people learn English by actually using it. Students need opportunities to speak, respond, ask questions, make mistakes, receive feedback and keep trying.
Learning should lead to communication.
Speak English without fear
Confidence matters. Students learn best when they feel comfortable enough to participate, make mistakes and try again. Our aim is to create a supportive environment where English becomes something students use rather than something they are afraid of getting wrong.
Small groups. Real conversation.
Small-group teaching gives students time to speak and gives teachers time to listen. It allows every learner to participate, receive feedback and become part of the conversation.
More speaking time
Students have more opportunities to use English.
More teacher attention
Teachers can listen, correct and respond to individual students.
Better group interaction
Students can learn through genuine conversation with classmates.
The right group matters
Students are placed with other learners at an appropriate level and age so that classes can remain balanced and productive.
When possible, group dynamics are also considered so students can participate comfortably.
Conversation with structure
Speaking is central, but lessons are not unstructured conversation. Teachers use vocabulary, grammar, questions, discussion material and activities to support meaningful communication.
Vocabulary
Useful words and expressions students can use in conversation.
Grammar
Clear explanations connected to real use.
Discussion
Questions and topics that encourage students to express ideas.
Feedback
Corrections and guidance that help students improve.
Live online classes
English with Gilbert teaches live online, allowing students to learn with their teacher and classmates from wherever they are.
The school is continuing to develop its online learning environment so classes, materials, communication and progress can work together more closely.
